67 million tons of grain of spring crops are harvested in Ukraine, of which 45 million tons are for export
67 million tons of grain of spring crops have been harvested in Ukraine this year, of which 45 million tons will be exported. In September, 2 million tons of Ukrainian food were sold.
Taras Vysotskyi, the 1st Deputy Minister of Ukraine's Agrarian Policy and Food, announced this during a briefing at the Media Center.
Harvesting of spring crops is over. This year it was possible to harvest 67 million tons of crops.
"Thanks to Ukraine's Armed Forces and the de-occupation, it was possible to make maximum use of sowing opportunities in the spring. 80% of the area was sown compared to the previous year. The de-occupation of the Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions helped a lot. And the de-occupation of the Kharkiv region will help with winter crops," Vysotskyi said.
Farmers harvested 19 million tons of wheat, 5.5 million tons of barley, 3.1 million tons of rapeseed, and 60 thousand tons of buckwheat, which occupies 35-40% of the cultivated area.
"We can expect buckwheat production of 140, and now the yield has increased, then maybe 150 thousand tons in final storage, when internal consumption, taking into account immigration and the decrease of consumers. Over the last decade, we have produced 1.5 times more than domestic consumption, unfortunately we used to import 30-40%. And this year, farmers have increased the sown area this spring," the 1st Deputy Minister said.
It is reported that 45 million tons of this crop will be exported.
"The great value of the grain initiative. In fact, 3.6 million tons of food have already been exported through it. Of them, almost 2 million were in September. We understand why the number is growing in our country - primarily because of this corridor. The geography is wide - 159 ships were traveling to the countries of Asia, Africa, and Europe. 23 ships with 604 thousand tons of food went to Africa alone. About 100 thousand tons - to the countries of Ethiopia and Yemen," Vysotskyi added.
Currently, corn, sunflower, and soybeans are still harvested.
