2024 will be year of defense for Ukraine — military and political observer Kovalenko

Oleksandr Kovalenko, military and political observer of the Information Resistance group, believes that next year will be a year of defense on at least three footholds: the administrative border of Luhansk and Kharkiv regions, as well as Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

"A Western outlet was the first to write about a counteroffensive in 2024, and then this information was adopted by our journalists and disseminated in the information space. I personally do not see the prospect of any major counteroffensive in 2024, rather it will be a year of defense on at least three bridgeheads. This is the administrative border of Luhansk and Kharkiv regions, so this is the Lyman-Kupyansk axis we are talking about. It will also be the Donetsk region with a defensive foothold and the Zaporizhzhia region, where we will hold the positions we occupy, because the Russians are beginning to increase pressure there," commented the military and political observer of the Information Resistance group.

According to him, the sole area with potential for expanding the number of liberated territories is the left bank of the Kherson region. It is in this region that the Ukrainian bridgehead has the potential to grow.

"But it cannot be called a large, powerful counteroffensive, it is rather a separate special operation of the relevant units with limited functionality. Such an operation is truly unique because it is conducted by small units in the face of an enemy group of more than 72,000 personnel. That is, it is a unique case when the enemy is ten times bigger, and at the same time it cannot do anything to counteract the actions of our units in that area," Oleksandr Kovalenko emphasized.
