2-3 months left for counteroffensive, unrealistic to expect infantry to fight in rainy season - Security Service colonel

During the rainy season the army will not be able to conduct active combat operations, so a counteroffensive needs to start soon.

Roman Kostenko, a military officer, people's deputy and Ukrainian Security Service colonel, stated this on Espreso.

"In order to do something, it is necessary to create the appropriate conditions for the offensive: to gather such a grouping of troops that could surpass the enemy technically and in terms of personnel, so that it is prepared, so that it has the morale to go on the offensive. This is the main thing, I think. Everyone understands that it is much easier to sit on the defensive than to go on the attack, and when the enemy is still using artillery, it is very difficult to stand up and walk away," he said.

According to Kostenko, it is now necessary to create conditions for an offensive against Russian forces.

"We have 2 or 2,5 months of dry time left for the offensive. When the rains begin, October, the end of September, there will be no active hostilities. Both sides will go on the defensive, so fighting in the fields, when everything is covered with water, is not realistic. If we want to advance, we need to do it in these three months, then there will be protracted artillery duels, when the enemy will move tactically in small areas of the terrain," the military said.
