160 Ukrainians and 9 Moldovan citizens evacuated from Gaza - Zelenskyy
Over the past day, 160 citizens of Ukraine and 9 from Moldova managed to evacuate from Gaza
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, 203 Ukrainians have already been evacuated from Gaza this week.
"Ukraine stands for the protection of civilian lives and cares about each of its citizens, no matter where they are," the President added.
The war in Israel: evacuation of Ukrainians
On October 7, the Palestinian armed groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad launched a massive attack on the state of Israel in several places from the air and on land. The head of Hamas, Mohammed al-Deifa, said that his militants had launched the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation. According to him, these actions are intended to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. The Palestinians fired 2-3 thousand rockets at Israel and simultaneously seized 7 communities in the south.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement on the invasion of Israel by Hamas militants and declared that the country was "at war." The government invoked the so-called Article 40 of the Aleph Law, officially declaring a state of war at 6:00 a.m. on October 7.
On October 14, Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets arrived in the Egyptian capital Cairo to help Ukrainians get out of Gaza: 243 people needed to be evacuated.
In the evening of the same day, the first evacuation flight with Ukrainian citizens took off from Tel Aviv.
As of the evening of October 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, Ukraine had managed to evacuate more than 200 citizens from Israel and Gaza. About 260 more Ukrainians are still in Gaza.
On October 16, a second evacuation flight with 155 Ukrainian citizens took off from the Israeli capital Tel Aviv for Romania, and later a third evacuation flight with 74 Ukrainian citizens took off for Bucharest.
Yevhen Korniychuk, Ukraine's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Israel, said that as of October 23, 337 Ukrainian citizens, mostly in the south of Gaza near the Rafah crossing to Egypt, had volunteered to evacuate.
Later, it became known that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the agencies involved had begun the preparatory stage of evacuating 358 Ukrainians from Gaza to Egypt. On November 7, Ambassador Korniychuk said that 101 Ukrainians were to be evacuated from Gaza on Tuesday.
On November 8, the first group of 43 Ukrainian citizens was successfully evacuated from Gaza. They are now safely in Egypt.
