155-mm and 152-mm shells for Ukraine: Is there any good news?
There are three important pieces of news regarding shells for the Ukrainian Defense Forces, each of which is of a different nature
This is reported by Defense Express.
According to Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the Tavria operational and strategic group of troops, due to the shortage of Soviet 152-mm and 122-mm shells, Ukrainian troops are already forced to "re-plan their previously set tasks." At the same time, the Ukrainian army has gone on the defensive in the southeastern part of the front, while they are still attacking in other areas, Reuters reports.
In turn, ArmyInform quotes Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk as saying that in 2024 "enterprises of Ukraine and some partner countries will jointly produce 155-mm ammunition in quantities that will largely cover the difference between the need and the assistance provided by partners.”
At the same time, he says "we continue to increase domestic production of ammunition for almost the entire range of former Soviet shells.”
In addition, the European Defense Review portal writes that on December 18, 2023, the Bundeswehr, under an existing framework agreement with Rheinmetall, ordered the supply of several tens of thousands of shells of various calibers for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2025, the cost of which is "a three-digit amount in millions of euros.”
