15 Russian cruise missiles downed around Kyiv, two hit in Cherkasy region

On May 9th, the Russians launched 17 air-launched cruise missiles in the Cherkasy region. Air defense managed to destroy 15 air targets, but the Russian army still attacked the area with two missiles. Ihor Taburets, head of the regional military administration, reported that there were no casualties. However, in one of the cases, there was a minor fire at the crash site, and the blast wave damaged the windows of a communal facility.

According to the Kyiv city military administration, the attack was carried out from four Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea region, but the launched cruise missiles, most likely of the Kh-101 (Kh-555) type, did not reach their targets. About one and a half dozen enemy air targets were detected and destroyed in the airspace around Kyiv.

The Kyiv city administration notes that this is the fifth air attack on Kyiv since the beginning of May. According to the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, a fragment of a downed rocket fell on a private yard in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital, and explosives experts, rescuers, and police are still working on the scene. There were no casualties or damage.

Andriy Nebytov, head of the National Police in the Kyiv region, reported that the wreckage of an enemy cruise missile was found in one of the districts of the Kyiv region. There were no casualties or damage. The police are inspecting the scene, and the military administration thanked the Armed Forces for their excellent work.

In addition, a funnel from an enemy attack was discovered in one of the districts of the Kyiv region. The diameter of the impact was about 8 meters, and the depth was more than 2.5 meters. At 05:56 a.m., the city's military administration wrote about the preliminary consequences of the air defense operation over the capital. Enemy missiles were shot down, and a fire broke out in the yard of a private house as a result of debris falling in the Holosiivskyi district. The information is still being verified, and in the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris was found on the roadway.

The alarm began to spread after 03:30 a.m. from the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava regions. At 04:45 a.m., an air alert was announced across Ukraine. At 05:04 a.m. in Kyiv, the regional military administration announced the work of air defense, and the Kyiv city military administration confirmed the information. 

Around 05:20 a.m., a powerful explosion rocked Kyiv, and authorities again emphasized the work of air defense and the need to stay in shelters. Around 06:00 a. m., an air raid warning was canceled throughout Ukraine, except for the Luhansk region and the temporarily occupied Crimea.
