This was reported by the Viasna Human Rights Center, as Radio Svoboda informed.
The latest to join this list are 18 people convicted under the article on "gross violation of public order". Among them is 71-year-old corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Biological Sciences Oleg Davydenko.
Human rights activists demand that the regime of self-proclaimed "president" Alexander Lukashenko immediately release all political prisoners and stop repressions.
In 2021, the Lukashenko regime detained, among others, human rights defenders of the Viasna Centre Ales Bialiatski, Valiantsin Stefanovich and Uladzimir Labkovich. Some Viasna lawyers and volunteers left Belarus to continue their human rights activities.
- Earlier in December, Lukashenko was visited by his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The dictators said that during the meeting they discussed military and economic cooperation.
