1,379 households remain flooded – Ukraine’s State Emergency Service
Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, a spokesman for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, noted that more than 1,700 people were transported across flood waters, and 22 people were evacuated
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Regarding the operational situation to eliminate the consequences of partial flooding, as of April 17, 3:00 pm, according to the Hydrometeorological Center, there is a further seasonal rise in the water level of the Vit, Dnipro, Desna, Seim, Sozh, Pripyat, Goryn and Western Buh rivers in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Poltava, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions. At present, the situation is under control," informed the spokesman.
Oleksandr Khorunzhyi noted that according to hydrologists, this week there is a tendency to stabilise the situation and even reduce the rate of water rise in rivers in the north of the country.
"Currently, 1,379 households remain flooded, most of them in Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro, Kyiv, Poltava and Kirovohrad regions. 198 houses are flooded, including 125 country houses. These are the houses located next to riverbeds. Accordingly, there is flooding, and we warned both the local population and local authorities about this situation. Today, more than 300 rescuers and more than 200 pieces of equipment are working to minimise the consequences and provide appropriate assistance to people. We have delivered more than 24 tons of drinking water and 276 kg of food. More than 1,700 people were transported across the water obstacles, and 22 people were evacuated. More than 12,000 cubic metres of water have been pumped out," said Khorunzhyi.
